One interesting idea I drew from The Three Body Problem was that when the Earth governments agree to stand up a Space Force decades before they expect it to actually be able to operate in space, the first job of that Space Force is to begin thinking about how it will fight in space with what weapons and capabilities and how to obtain them.

The Western version heavily condensed possibly as much as a third of the first book while Chinese version took the viewer more methodically through the early steps of the story. I expect they never faced the kinds of resistance the idea of 30 episodes plus would have generated on the part of western broadcasters and streamers.

We’ve watched both the short Western version and the 30 episodes plus long Chinese production and have been fascinated by the different production and script differences. Obviously the Chinese version brings in much more of the details from the book.
